MGS presents Kaia String Quartet

Celebrated for its ability to "beautifully blur the lines between jazz, classical, Latin and world music," KAIA String Quartet is devoted to capturing the essence of Latin American culture through the medium of the string quartet. Active performers in both the US and abroad, highlights of the 2019-2020 season include a residency at the Avaloch Farm Institute, a tour of Argentina and Uruguay.  Based in Chicago, where they are regular guests at the Chicago Latino Music Festival and the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, they recently were the ensemble in residence at Chicago's classical radio station, WFMT.  They have collaborated with Grammy winner Raúl Jaurena, the National Chamber Music Ensemble of Uruguay, Chicago’s Tangata ensemble, Chicago Summer Dance Festival and in 2013 KAIA performed with Grammy Award winning musician and composer Paquito D’Rivera. Their performance was  featured on NPR’s New Year’s Eve “Toast of the Nation.”

KAIA will be performing works of Beethoven, Bragato, and Piazzola.

This is MGS's 4th Annual Music for a Great Cause Concert.  Each season, MGS chooses a local non-profit working in the Health and Human Services sector to collaborate with for this special event.  This year, MGS has chosen the Arc of Greensboro because of the important work they do supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, promoting and protecting their human rights and actively supporting their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

MGS will provide a special education event for Arc members and their families as part of our commitment to music education for everyone in our community.  In addition, MGS will donate 50% of all concert proceeds to the Arc to support the essential work they are doing in Greensboro.
