MGS presents jazz guitarist Mimi Fox along with beloved local artists Steve Haines on bass and Sarah Gooch on drums.

American Flag

Internationally renowned guitarist/composer/recording artist Mimi Fox has been cited in numerous Downbeat Magazine International Critics Polls and has been recognized by writers and colleagues alike as one of the most eloquent guitarists on today's scene. In a further nod to Mimi's guitar artistry, and in conjunction with Heritage Guitars' 30th anniversary, the historic Kalamazoo guitar company has rolled out the Mimi Fox Artist Signature model.

Mimi maintains a whirlwind touring schedule, playing major festivals from New York to Tokyo, including tours of the Caribbean, Japan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. As a composer, Mimi has written and performed original scores for orchestras, documentary films and dance projects while receiving grants from prestigious funders such as Meet the Composer and the California Arts Council. NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington included her composition “Perpetually Hip” in her groundbreaking book New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets By Women Composers.

Mimi's 12th and most recent album, One For Wes, is a "consistently blazing centennial tribute to guitar legend Wes Montgomery featuring her smokin’ organ trio."

Sarah Gooch is a drummer, educator, and composer.  She recently recorded and toured with soul singer Morgan James and completed a national tour with social-media star MALINDA (Malinda Kathleen Reese), an Irish folk singer. In Manhattan she performs at venues like Smalls and Dizzy’s Club.  She has also played at the Bern (Switzerland) International Jazz Festival and performed with Bria Skonberg, Camille Thurman, Lage Lund, Doug Wamble and at several international Lindy hop festivals with the Gordon Webster Band. In 2022, Sarah co-led a band in Spain with trombonist, Alba Pujals where they performed all original music at Nova Jazz Cava in Terrassa and in Barcelona. Her versatile drumming as a recording artist can be heard on two upcoming releases: Morgan James “Nobody’s Fool” and Alba Pujals “Apologia”.

Sarah is currently on faculty at NC State University. She is the first woman to graduate from The Juilliard School as a drummer. Prior to moving to New York City, Sarah studied jazz at the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she developed a love for teaching, doing masterclasses and workshops at schools around the state. Sarah is a native of Cumberland, Maine.

Canadian-born Steve Haines (double bass) has played extensively with Chad Eby, Wycliffe Gordon, Paul Bollenback, Joel Frahm, Ralph Bowen, Fred Wesley, Ariel Pocock, and the Joey Calderazzo Trio. Samba De Maracatu, his 2021 recording with Joe Chambers (Blue Note) has received critical acclaim, particularly in Japan and Europe. He is currently the Interim Director of the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Steve’s bass teachers were Skip Beckwith and Lynn Seaton, who both studied with Ray Brown; Craig Butterfield, and Jeff Bradetich. Lately, he has been meddling with writing lyrics. Soon, videos of songs with Ariel Pocock, Ernest Turner, and Joe Chambers will be released.
