Resident Ensemble at GreenHill Center for NC Art

MGS and GreenHill Center for NC Art partner to present:

The MGS 2025 Resident Ensemble Catchfire Collective performing at GreenHill during Family Night for an exploration of art and music!
Catchfire Collective will perform, share info, and entertain audiences with music for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion.

Catchfire Collective presents innovative, powerful, and inspiring performances that reignite the chamber music experience. Based in Greensboro, North Carolina, Catchfire was founded by six graduates of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2019. Equally at home as a sextet, in smaller formations, and as soloists, Catchfire’s members represent a dynamic background of artistic approaches and experiences, united in their common goal of offering unique performances that capture the ethos of twenty-first century art music.

Each Wednesday at GreenHill from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, kids, adults, and families are welcome to engage with art in the engaging and immersive environment of ArtQuest. Explore your inner artist in a judgment-free zone. There is truly so much to create when you have the space to play and imagine!  Learn more about GreenHill Center for NC Art here!

The MGS Chamber Ensemble Residency is designed to provide performance opportunities and mentorship for an up-and-coming ensemble interested in chamber music as it was, is, and can be.  This year's Resident Ensemble, Catchfire Collective, is comprised of Jillian Povázsay (flutes), Peter Swanson (cello), Isaac Pyatt (percussion), Anja Arko (piano), Roderick A. Terrell II (clarinet), and Jayon Felizarta (violin).

The Chamber Ensemble Residency has three main aspects, a mentorship program, a teaching program, and a series of community performances.  This year's mentor artists, Hypercube Ensemble, worked with Catchfire in February and March, culminating in a shared performance for MGS community members.  Catchfire is also working with the students at Hairston Middle School under the direction of band director Rodney Milton.  Catchfire completes their residency with a series of community performances presented at no charge.
